Welcome to Binny’s Newsletter. I am Simon Gibson – the owner. Binny’s creates craft cocktails and great food in the heart of Old Oakland at 8th Street between Washington and Clay. This newsletter will keep you up to date on upcoming events at Binny’s, changes to the menu or cocktail program and just the general goings-on with us and our incredible community.

OK, now that that’s out of the way, my wife, Amy Hyde, and I are both from the Bay Area. I grew up in SF and Amy’s from Oakland. We spent almost 15 years on the east coast in DC and NYC. When we returned home, I decided to leave the tech industry and I invested in this Oakland space with the vision of creating a special place to grow community. Through a lot of work and support from friends, I created Binny’s, named after my great-grandmother. From the art-deco styling, Matley Hurd’s beautiful mural, and the U-shaped bar that allows for cross-room conversations, Binny’s is about connecting with this vibrant Oakland community and just having a place where you’re always welcomed.

Staff Spotlight: Chef, Justin York
“My favorite part of being a chef is the creativity that I find in making meals – it’s an art,” said Justin. “Changing the menu and mixing it up to make our customers happy is my number one priority at Binny’s”.
Chef Justin comes to Binny’s after more than 12 years working in well-known establishments in the East Bay and Santa Cruz – Townhouse in Emeryville, Wood Tavern in Rockridge, the East End Gastropub, and the West End Tap and Kitchen both in Santa Cruz.
